Bahía de Banderas es un municipio del estado de Nayarit, México. Tiene una superficie de 777,78 km². Sus coordenadas geográficas extremas son al norte 21°03′, al sur 20°44′ de latitud norte; al este 104°58′ y al oeste 105°32′ de longitud oeste.
El municipio de Bahía de Banderas representa el 5.1% de la superficie total del estado. Limita al norte y noreste con el municipio de Compostela, al este y al sur con el estado de Jalisco, al noroeste y oeste con el océano Pacífico.
Cabe mencionar que la “Bahía de Banderas” forma parte del estado de Jalisco y Nayarit, dividida en su parte media por la desembocadura del río Ameca. Al municipio lo riegan las aguas del río Ameca.
Es un importante punto turístico tanto a Nivel nacional como Internacional recibe miles de turistas Nacionales y de origen extranjero como de Estados Unidos, Canadá y Europa.
El turismo es importante factor económico y por el cual es reconocido el Estado de Nayarit y Bahia de Banderas es uno de los puntos principales en Nayarit.
Bahía de Banderas es el polo turístico de Nayarit es la parte principal de lo que se conoce como Riviera Nayarit por sus espectaculares playas, como Lo de Marcos, San Pancho, Sayulita, Punta de Mita, Nuevo Vallarta, La Cruz de Huanacaxtle, Bucerías, y si olvidar a la magnifica playa de Litibu.
Su nombre significa “Tierra de buzos”. Es un pueblo muy bello que cuenta con una hermosa playa en donde se pueden practicar el buceo y la pesca deportiva de excelentes ejemplares de pez gallo, robalo y lisa, entre otros más, así también la pesca de algunos ejemplares de pesca mayor como el marlin y el pez vela.
En el centro del pueblo, a un costado de la plaza, podrán encontrar una serie de puestos, donden venden artesanías típicas de la región, al igual hay restaurantes donde podrán saborear la comida que es típica en esta región.
Población de importancia en el desarrollo del turismo con impacto internacional, con una marina para resguardar y atracar yates y veleros con todas las facilidades portuarias, con restaurant. La población cuenta con todos los niveles de formación académica con enfoque a las áreas biológicas y del turismo sustentables, teniendo al Instituto Tecnológico de Bahía de Banderas como un pilar del Desarrollo sustentable. Se ofertan las carreras de biólogo marino, Ingeniero Ambiental, Buceo Deportivo y Recreativo e Ingeniero en Gestión Empresarial.
Es un puerto pesquero, agricula, ganadero y destino turístico que cuenta con bellos paisajes y se caracteriza por sus tranquilas playas en las que se puede practicar el surf ocasionalmente. La mayoría de los rincones de este pueblo no han sido explorados, por lo cual está garantizado pasar momentos gratos de descanso.
Es nuevo y moderno complejo turístico de muy alta calidad, para el turismo de alto nivel. Es considerado como el primer desarrollo nautico, turistico, ecologico, habitacional y mejor planeado del pais.Cuenta con aproximadamente 5 km de bellas playas. Nuevo Vallarta cuenta con una marina para 270 embarcaciones, todos los servicios que ofrece son de la más alta calidad. Posee tres campos de golf de nivel mundial, selectos restaurantes, centros comerciales, ademas de ser el destino turistico mas seguro del pais. También cuenta con dos hoteles de gran turismo, Mayan y Grand Velas, ademas de varios hoteles mas de 5 estrellas. También cuenta con una zona residencial exclusiva. En ecologia, Nuevo Vallarta cuenta con todas sus avenidas bien arboladas, lo que te da la impresion de estar en medio de un jardin, ademas de un gran sistema de manglares y canales navegables. Nuevo Vallarta es la sede de la Universidad Tecnologica de Bahia de Banderas
Estas playas de pescadores se caracterizan por su suculenta comida que ofrecen los restaurantes que se encuentran a las orillas de las bellas playas. Comida especializada en mariscos frescos.
También cuenta con un maravilloso mundo submarino lleno de arrecifes coralinos y de una maravillosa fauna como tortugas, mantas y langostas, entre otros más. En las cercanías, en las épocas de frío, se pueden observar de cerca las ballenas jorobadas.
Es un pequeño poblado y a su vez un puerto pesquero que tiene bellas playas. En las cuales se pueden realizar paseos en lancha y también se pueden practicar el surf y la pesca.
También llamado “San Pancho”, es un pueblo de pescadores, cuenta con una magnifica vista de las estribaciones de la Sierra de Vallejo. En esta playa también se puede practicar el surf. En el pueblo se encuentra el Hospital Municipal de Bahía de Banderas. Es un pueblo muy tranquilo. Posee un gran desarrollo como todo el municipio, cuenta con varios hoteles como el Costa Azul y casas para rentar como Casa Betty, cuenta con un agradable clima, una bonita playa. Es un pueblo muy limpio.
En todos estos poblados se ubica un importante número de hoteles de clase mundial, SPA’s, Resorts prestigiosos así como campos de golf. Los atractivos culturales son las parroquias y construcciones de Valle de Banderas, y de San Juan de Abajo
Economía
La economía se centra principalmente en el Turismo importante factor de economía del municipio y de todo el Estado de Nayarit. Es un importante productor de Camarón, Guachinango entre otros productos de la Pesca. Los cultivos principales son: sandía, sorgo, maíz, mango, entre otros.
Elevaciones
Las principales elevaciones del municipio son La Sierra de Vallejo con 1420 metros sobre el nivel del mar (msnm); Cerro Vallejo con 1260 msnm; el Cerro Las Canoas que cuenta con 740 msnm; el Cerro Cora con 720 msnm; El Cerro Bandera con 600msnm; El Cerro Carboneras con 510 msnm y por último el menor el Cerro El Caloso com 500 msnm.
Climas
En el municipio de Bahía de banderas predominan tres tipos de climas, el principal es el cálido subhúmedo con lluvias en verano de mayor humedad, este clima abarca el 51.3% de la superficie municipla. El siguiente clima es el cálido subhúmedo con lluvias en verano de humedad media, este abarca el 47% de la superficie municipla. Y por último esta el semicálido subhúmedo con lluvias en verano de mayor humedad, este es el de menor porcentaje con un 1.7% de la superficie municipal.
El pueblo Valle de Banderas siendo la cabecera Mpal.de Bahia de Banderas se festeja el 2 de febrero el día de nuestra Sra. del Rosario de Tintoque, la fiesta consiste en que diariamente se hace peregrinación por cada barrio la cual lleva un carro alegórico con diferentes imágenes religiosas, durante diez días consecutivos, comenzando el día 24 de enero al 2 de febrero, esta fiesta se complementa con festivales culturales que se hacen todos los días por las noches terminando el acto religioso.
En el pueblo de San Jose del Valle las fiestas son del 10 al 19 de marzo festejando al señor San Jose cada dia consiste en hacer una peregrinación por cada sector hasta llegar al templo del pueblo en la cual se muestran carros alegóricos con imágenes religiosas, durante todo el novenario. También se realizan festivales culturales que se realizan después de la peregrinación donde se muestran concursos de baile y canto, reyna y rey de la primavera ,grupos musicales ,orquestas.
Se festejan varias fiestas populares donde destacan las “Fiestas de mayo”, que son las fiestas patronales de San Juan de Abajo, celebrando a Juan Bautista , empezando el 15 de mayo y acabándose el 24 de mayo. Esta es la mayor, bonita y mejor feria del municipio de Bahia de Banderas.
